Real Madrid secured a commanding 3-0 victory against 10-man Valencia at Mestalla Stadium on Saturday, bringing them level on points with La Liga leaders Barcelona. Kylian Mbappe extended his scoring streak to seven matches, adding a third goal for Madrid in the second half.
Jose Mourinho’s team controlled the match, marking their eighth consecutive win across all competitions. Federico Valverde and Arda Guler each scored in the first half, setting the tone for the match.
Madrid played without winger Vinicius Junior, who was serving the final game of a four-match suspension. Despite his absence, the team maintained pressure on Barcelona, whom they defeated in the October 25 Clasico at Camp Nou.
The match briefly paused in the ninth minute as players and fans paid tribute to Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who tragically passed away earlier in the week.
Valencia had a goal disallowed for offside, but Madrid quickly took control. Valverde opened the scoring with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area after Mbappe’s free-kick was blocked. Guler soon doubled the lead, capitalizing on a fortunate deflection from a Jude Bellingham cross.
In the second half, Guler nearly added a third goal but was thwarted by Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. Dimitrievski also made key saves against both Mbappe and Bellingham, staving off further damage for Valencia.
Mbappe eventually found the net, converting a pass from Guler to score his 13th league goal of the season and his 17th goal in 16 matches overall. He has consistently found the back of the net in his last seven appearances for Madrid.
Valencia’s Jose Gaya was sent off in the closing minutes for a sliding foul on Mbappe, compounding the difficulties for the home team.
In other Liga matches, new Espanyol coach Eder Sarabia witnessed his team held to a goalless draw against Deportivo A Coruna. Osasuna managed a late equalizer against Athletic Bilbao, while Racing Santander overcame Malaga 2-1 after trailing early.
