Chief Justice to Swear in New Supreme Court Justice

ABUJA — Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will administer the oath of office to Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The ceremony is set for 2 p.m. in Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court complex.

Justice Oyewole’s appointment follows recent retirements from the Supreme Court due to the attainment of the mandatory retirement age. He previously served as a Justice on the Court of Appeal and held the position of Presiding Justice in the Enugu Division.

A statement issued by Dr. Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations for the Supreme Court, noted that Justice Oyewole will contribute his extensive legal expertise and integrity to the bench, reinforcing the court’s capacity to deliver just and timely rulings.

The swearing-in ceremony is viewed as a significant step toward rejuvenating the judiciary and maintaining high standards of integrity, competence, and impartiality.

All invited guests are expected to comply with the court’s security protocols and procedures, as emphasized in Akande’s statement.

“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains dedicated to the principles of justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement read.
