R&B Star Tems Reflects on Early Career Challenges

R&B artist Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has opened up about her initial struggles in the music industry, including a notable incident where she was booed off stage during a school performance.

In an interview with Big Boy TV, the musician, known for her hit “Crazy Tings,” recounted the experience, stating that not only was she booed, but plastic bottles were also thrown at her.

“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer, and I thought I was going to receive a standing ovation,” Tems recalled. “But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me.”

Despite the embarrassment and the setbacks she faced early in her career, Tems emphasized her determination to pursue music. She noted that some of the rejections were likely a result of her commitment to originality, opting to create her own sound instead of following the trends set by her peers.

Reflecting on her journey, the Grammy-winning artist expressed satisfaction with her decision to remain authentic, stating that she is glad she did not compromise her style despite initial pressures.
