It’s wrong to assume people get wiser just by aging – ID Cabasa

Nigerian Music Executive Challenges Perceptions of Wisdom Linked to Age
Nigerian music executive Olumide Ogunade, widely known as ID Cabasa, has questioned the widely held belief that wisdom inherently comes with age. In a recent appearance on The Clarity Zone podcast, the 50-year-old artist emphasized that wisdom should be gauged by competence rather than merely accumulated years of experience.
Cabasa asserted that many individuals, often regarded as wise due to their past experiences, may actually hold outdated or irrelevant insights. “The assumption that the older you get, the wiser you are is not necessarily accurate,” he stated, clarifying that while older individuals can certainly be intelligent, their wisdom is not solely determined by age.
He further explained that many people might mistakenly equate their experiences with wisdom, despite those experiences being obsolete. “If you are not growing but just aging, you may not be any wiser,” Cabasa said. He highlighted the need for individuals to adapt to evolving generational contexts, citing the rapid advancements in technology as an example.
Cabasa concluded that respect should not be granted solely on the basis of age but rather on an individual’s ongoing growth and competence.
