Why I joined politics – Actor, Olumide Oworu

Nollywood Actor Olumide Oworu Discusses His Entry into Politics
LAGOS—Nollywood actor Olumide Oworu has articulated his motivations for entering partisan politics, emphasizing a desire to influence policy decisions affecting everyday citizens.
In a recent interview with Naija FM, the 31-year-old Oworu expressed concern over the current state of governance in Nigeria, noting that ineffective policymaking impacts him just as it does other citizens. He highlighted a perceived decline in the country over the years and voiced his aspiration to help prevent further deterioration.
“I decided to join politics because of how the country is going,” Oworu said. “I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. I want to start a family and raise my kids here.”
Oworu’s decision was also influenced by the aging of current politicians. “Most of the present crops of politicians are aging out, and whatever policy they are making today will affect me and my friends tomorrow,” he explained.
In the 2023 elections, Oworu contested for a seat in the House of Assembly, representing the Surulere 1 constituency in Lagos State under the Labour Party. He faced off against Desmond Elliott but ultimately lost the election.
Despite this setback, Oworu remains committed to his political aspirations.
