Police arrest 15-year-old for allegedly killing guardian in Ilorin

Kwara State Police Arrest 15-Year-Old for Alleged Homicide

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, in connection with the alleged murder of his guardian, identified only as Akanbi, in Ilorin, the state capital.

Authorities say Yusuf attacked Akanbi with various household items after an earlier attempt to poison her reportedly failed. The incident was revealed during a press briefing by Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo on Friday.

Ojo indicated that police received a distress call reporting Akanbi’s body was found in a pool of blood inside her home. Preliminary investigations suggested that Yusuf, who lived with Akanbi, initiated the assault while she was bathing.

According to the police chief, the suspect concealed himself behind a door before launching the attack. Officers recovered multiple items from the scene, including a frying pan, a kitchen spatula, a weighing scale, and several knives, which are believed to have been used in the assault.

During questioning, Yusuf allegedly confessed to the crime, citing resentment towards Akanbi as his motive. After the incident, he reportedly changed his clothes and left the house, claiming he was running an errand. He later contacted Akanbi’s husband, who returned home to find his wife unresponsive.

Commissioner Ojo confirmed that Yusuf remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
