‘My public support for Tinubu affected me’ – Toyin Abraham warns Timini to be neutral

Nollywood Actress Toyin Abraham Reflects on Political Support’s Impact
Toyin Abraham, a well-known actress in Nigeria’s Nollywood film industry, shared insights about the repercussions of her support for President Bola Tinubu during the recent election.
In a discussion with actor Timini Egbuson regarding strategies for box office success, Abraham advised him to avoid political affiliations. “The first advice I will give you in my entire life is don’t put your mouth in politics. Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody. Don’t support anybody, just be on your own. Be neutral,” she emphasized.
When Egbuson reminded her of her past endorsement of Tinubu, Abraham responded, “That was then.” She expressed that aligning herself with political figures had negatively affected her career, exclaiming, “Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo.”
In early 2024, Abraham raised concerns about her latest film, Ijakumo (Born-Again Stripper), following reports that it was being shared on WhatsApp without her consent. Amidst negative reviews surrounding the film, she voiced frustration over the criticism she faced for her political stance. “You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not,” she remarked, highlighting the backlash she experienced from audiences who declined to support her work due to her political campaign.
