Governor Abiodun Transforms PMB Estate into Modern Housing Community
Abeokuta, Ogun State — Governor Dapo Abiodun has successfully averted the potential forfeiture of the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta, transforming the previously stalled project into a 108-unit modern residential community.
The estate, situated along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, is set to be officially commissioned on Tuesday by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
When the Abiodun administration took office, the estate was largely undeveloped, with only basic infrastructure awarded and a single show building completed. It faced a legal dispute due to unpaid obligations to the contractor responsible for its development, which placed the property at risk of losing through court action.
To address the situation, the Abiodun administration intervened, settling the dispute out of court and beginning payments to secure the state’s stake in the estate. Rather than abandon the inherited project, the administration opted for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, granting private developers the responsibility for constructing and marketing the housing units while the state provided the land and infrastructure.
The transformation has yielded a fully completed PMB Estate, which features 108 four-bedroom duplexes, both fully detached and semi-detached, designed with modern architectural elements and high-quality infrastructure. The development includes well-constructed road networks, street lighting, landscaped green areas, clean water supply, waste management facilities, a sports center, children’s playground, clubhouse, 24-hour power supply, ample parking, and comprehensive security within a gated community.
The fully detached homes cover approximately 900 square meters and include four en-suite bedrooms, a boys’ quarters, a master bedroom with a closet, spacious living and dining areas, a family lounge, study, visitors’ toilet, and a terrace. The semi-detached units, ranging from 460 to 500 square meters, offer similar features, though lacking a study.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that this project reflects his administration’s dedication to safeguarding public investments and completing inherited projects rather than permitting them to deteriorate. “This project is part of our administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for various categories of residents,” he stated.
The PMB Estate is strategically located opposite the State Judiciary Complex and near the Ogun TechHub, ensuring easy access to major institutional, commercial, and transportation hubs. It is only two minutes from the Ogun TechHub, seven minutes from Government House, 12 minutes from the Abeokuta Golf Course, 15 minutes from the Wole Soyinka Train Station, and approximately 30 minutes from Lagos.
The development is also encouraging private-sector investment; Access Bank is currently working on a training school and other facilities within the estate.
The commissioning marks the completion of a project that once faced the prospect of abandonment. The Abiodun administration has successfully restructured and delivered this initiative as a modern housing community, exemplifying the administration’s policy of protecting public assets, harnessing private investment, and transforming inherited liabilities into beneficial infrastructure for the citizens of Ogun State.
