Accord Atiku respect due to him – APC tells members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has called on its members to extend the appropriate respect to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, emphasizing his status as a respected political figure and presidential candidate, despite recent tensions. The council’s statement comes in response to public criticism of Atiku for referring to President Bola Tinubu simply as “Bola,” an act they deem inappropriate for someone in Atiku’s former position.
In a statement released on Monday, APC spokesperson Dele Alake urged party leaders, spokespersons, and members to continue to treat Atiku with the respect afforded to a former vice president and current presidential candidate, irrespective of their disagreements with his actions.
“Regardless of his personal choice to disrespect the office he is aspiring to occupy, the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council implores all party leaders, spokespersons, party members, and support groups to accord due respect and courtesies to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” the statement read.
The council criticized Atiku, the candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for what it deemed a lapse in decorum regarding his address to President Tinubu. They also accused him of allowing political rivalry to affect his public demeanor since the 2023 presidential elections.
Despite these criticisms, the APC has indicated that it will not adopt Atiku’s method of political engagement. Instead, the party plans to focus its campaign on key issues affecting Nigerians, including its initiatives, President Tinubu’s record, and the administration’s efforts aimed at advancing the country from reforms to prosperity as the 2027 presidential election approaches.
