Tuscaloosa’s Sports Scene

While football may be over, winter and spring activities are bountiful. It’s not uncommon for a sports fan to travel in on a Thursday and leave Sunday having enjoyed a different sport every night. You can easily experience the history of championship teams such as Alabama Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Softball, Baseball, Gymnastics, Golf, and more. It’s also worth noting that Stillman College and Shelton State Community College, both located in Tuscaloosa, offer options with teams that are no stranger to championships as well.

Tuscaloosa’s Rich History

For over 200 years, we have walked through history that has built the foundation of our community. To recognize Tuscaloosa’s Civil Rights History, the Tuscaloosa Civil Rights History and Reconciliation Foundation was established and an 18-stop Tuscaloosa Civil Rights History Trail was created. On the trail, you learn about the often-untold story of Bloody Tuesday ,as well as the many Civil Rights heroes that made a lasting impact.

Tuscaloosa is also home to one of the nation’s premier Native American heritage sites. Called “The Big Apple of the 14th Century” by National Geographic, Moundville Archeological Park was once the site of a powerful prehistoric community that was once America’s largest city north of Mexico.

The University of Alabama oversees additional museums as well. Learn more about the Alabama Museum of Natural History, Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum, the Paul W. Bryant Museum, and the Gorgas House Museum by clicking here.
