Actor Roy De Nani opens up on painful experience in Nollywood

Nollywood Actor Roy De Nani Reflects on Industry Struggles and Personal Tragedies
Veteran Nollywood actor Roy De Nani has opened up about his difficult experiences within the film industry and the personal challenges he has faced throughout his life.
In an interview on the podcast “Where is the Lie,” De Nani claimed that he was unofficially blacklisted from acting roles at one point in his career. He alleged that an individual instructed others in the industry to refrain from offering him jobs.
“A man gave an order that nobody should give Roy De Nani a job again,” he said. “For years, even when I was already recording, a producer would come in and say, ‘No, cancel it. Stop.’”
He also shared his pain over the loss of his brother, recalling that no fellow actors or actresses supported him during that time. “I have a brother from the same father. When he died, not a single actor or actress showed up,” he stated.
In addition to his brother’s passing, De Nani revealed that he later faced the devastating loss of both his son and daughter. He attributed their deaths to his inability to afford the necessary blood transfusions they required due to sickle cell disorder.
“I lost my son, I lost my daughter because they needed blood transfusions so they could continue living, but there was no money to buy the blood, and they died,” he explained.
He expressed disappointment in the industry’s response to his hardships, saying, “Nollywood never came to assist me. Not that they don’t care, but they have not been touched. Let it be said that way.”
