Africa CDC Backs Nigeria’s Ebola Response, Highlights Contact Tracing –

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has expressed its continued support for Nigeria as the country responds to the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak. The agency highlighted the critical role of surveillance and contact tracing in curbing further transmission of the virus.
In a statement, Africa CDC emphasized that identifying and monitoring individuals who have been in contact with confirmed cases is essential for breaking the virus’s transmission chains and preventing its spread into larger communities.
In collaboration with various partners, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has initiated training programs for health workers from Abuja’s area councils, focusing on effective contact tracing as part of its ongoing preparedness and response efforts.
“Early detection saves lives, protects health workers and families, and stops the virus before it reaches the wider community,” Africa CDC stated.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, as well as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), to support a coordinated, country-led response.
As Nigeria intensifies its efforts to contain the outbreak, the focus remains on strengthening infection prevention and control measures to safeguard frontline health workers and local communities. Africa CDC reiterated its pledge to assist Nigeria and its partners in implementing comprehensive public health interventions to manage the outbreak effectively.
