Pastor Critiques Afrobeats at Worship Concert
Dr. Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, voiced criticism of the Afrobeats genre during his sermon at the church’s Mid-year Worship concert. He expressed concerns about the lyrical depth of the music, describing it as lacking substance.
While addressing his congregation, Dr. Enenche stated that Afrobeats artists contribute to negative influences on the youth. He called on Gospel musicians to produce more meaningful songs that resonate with young audiences in an effort to counteract these effects.
“We will organize a youth fire night on September 25,” he announced, encouraging local Gospel musicians, including Prinx Emmanuel, to mark their calendars. He emphasized the importance of music that conveys positive messages, stating, “It is better to have music that is saying something that youth is hearing than the garbage that worldly musicians sing.”
Dr. Enenche further criticized certain Afrobeats songs, claiming they promote harmful behaviors, such as drug use. He argued that providing an uplifting alternative could help guide young people away from negative influences.
“In time to come, more energetic Gospel music will be word-loaded to disciple you, showing you steps to make the right decisions,” he added.
