AGN Lagos mourns Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’

The Lagos State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the passing of veteran Nollywood actor Chief Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo. He reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

In an official statement, the AGN Lagos expressed its sorrow and celebrated Hassan’s significant contributions to Nigerian cinema over a career spanning more than three decades. The guild highlighted that Ogogo was recognized for his unique screen presence, commanding voice, and commitment to portraying authentic Nigerian narratives.

Beyond his performances, the guild referred to Hassan as a mentor who inspired younger professionals in the industry. They praised his discipline on set and his advocacy for Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.

A representative from the AGN Lagos Communications Department remarked that Hassan’s death marks a profound loss for the Nigerian creative industry. “Ogogo’s death is a significant loss to the creative industry. He embodied excellence, integrity, and represented the golden era of Nollywood. We celebrate his life, contributions, and the lasting impact he made on our industry,” the statement read.

The AGN extended its condolences to Hassan’s family, the national leadership, members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the broader Nollywood community, and his fans worldwide. The guild also offered prayers for the repose of his soul and requested that God provide strength to his family during this difficult time.

Plans for a tribute and funeral honoring Hassan will be announced at a later date, pending consultations with his family and the national AGN leadership.
