Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt in Akwa Ibom State
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Oron waterways.
In a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday, police spokesperson DSP Timfon John reported that a team from the Marine Police, in coordination with local Marine Hunters, conducted a joint operation based on credible intelligence that indicated a planned abduction in the area.
The operation targeted a suspected criminal camp located along the Calabar–Oron Channel, aimed at disrupting the activities of a criminal syndicate believed to be planning a kidnapping.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered several items, including one Jojeef English pump-action gun, two cartridges, a length of white rope suspected for criminal use, two speedboats, three outboard engines with 200 horsepower, and one outboard engine with 15 horsepower.
The recovered items are currently secured for documentation and further investigative procedures.
In the statement, Police Commissioner Baba Mohammed praised the operatives and the Marine Hunters for their professionalism and proactive measures. He also reassured residents in riverine communities—such as boat operators, fishermen, and other users of the waterways—of the police’s commitment to their safety and security.
