Alleged drug trafficking: FBI has Tinubu on wiretape – US firm
A political advisory and lobbying firm based in the United States, Von Batten-Montague-York, stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recorded wiretaps involving Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu in a current drug trafficking investigation.
In a statement shared on its verified X account on Thursday, the firm reported that the FBI has requested that the court restrict access to sensitive wiretap recordings related to President Tinubu.
The statement indicated that the FBI acknowledged the existence of wiretap material pertaining to Tinubu, emphasizing that these records were collected as part of an investigation into several individuals involved in heroin trafficking.
In an analysis of court documents, the firm expressed, “The FBI has Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on tape connected to heroin-trafficking crimes.”
Additionally, the FBI cited the Freedom of Information Act Exemption 3 and federal wiretap laws to justify the protection of individuals targeted in the wiretaps, as well as information derived from those interceptions.
Von Batten-Montague-York urged the court to dismiss the FBI’s arguments and release the wiretap material, arguing that if President Tinubu is implicated in heroin trafficking, both the American public and the Nigerian people have a right to know the contents of those tapes.
