Alleged Rigging: Atiku’s camp fires back at Babachir Lawal, demands evidence

Atiku Abubakar’s Camp Responds to Babachir Lawal’s Criticism

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a rebuttal to Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, following his recent remarks regarding the party’s presidential primary process.

Lawal, who announced his resignation from the ADC on Monday, accused Atiku Abubakar of manipulating the outcomes of the primaries conducted nationwide. He called into question the integrity of the electoral process, asserting that it had been compromised.

In response, Atiku’s camp, represented by Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication Phrank Shaibu, condemned Lawal’s comments as unfounded allegations aimed at undermining the party’s democratic practices. Shaibu stated that Lawal’s complaints lacked substantive evidence and reflected a failure to influence the electoral process.

“By disparaging a democratic process and insulting ADC members, Mr. Lawal has made serious allegations without presenting any proof,” the statement read. Shaibu emphasized that the presidential primaries of the ADC accurately reflected the wishes of its membership.

The ADC reiterated that the primaries took place across numerous wards and resulted in a decisive outcome. Shaibu noted that Lawal has not produced any documentation or credible evidence to back his claims of electoral manipulation.

“The facts are clear,” he concluded. “Mr. Lawal has provided no verifiable facts, credible witnesses, or tangible proof to substantiate his sensational allegations.”
