Ambassadorial appointment: Why I’m yet to resume in Mexico  — Reno Omokri

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico Delays Resumption Amid World Cup Hosting

MEXICO CITY — Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, has addressed the reasons for his delayed commencement at his post during an interview with Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Monday.

Omokri cited the ongoing FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States and Mexico, as a significant factor in his situation. He emphasized that his absence is not an indication of any rejection by Mexico, countering narratives circulated by opposition groups.

“Mexico has not rejected me. Not at all,” Omokri stated. “You should understand that Mexico is currently focused on hosting the World Cup.”

He added that many ambassadors are experiencing similar delays in resuming their duties. “Most of us ambassadors have not resumed. So, I’m not the only one. A lot of my colleagues are in my situation, but it’s okay. These things happen.”

Omokri also addressed claims from opposition figures regarding his status, asserting, “We do not work on the basis of the opposition. We work on the basis of reality. The reality is that we have countries in the world that respect Nigeria, and they are going to be receiving Nigeria’s envoys.”
