Ange reveals Spurs’ double injury blow amidst latest gong

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou‘s rapid rise in the English Premier League has again been recognised with a third consecutive Manager of the Month award.

After first claiming the top gong in August, becoming the first Australian to do so, Postecoglou backed up with nominations in both September and October as his Spurs went on an unbeaten run.

The win marks just the fourth time a Premier League manager has achieved a hat-trick of the award, which is voted on by the public and a panel of experts. However, Postecoglou is the first manager to win successive titles to start the season.

Antonio Conte (Chelsea) and Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) both won the award three months running with Klopp being the last manager to do so in 2019-20 with Liverpool.

Postecoglou will now have Pep Guardiola’s record of four straight with Manchester City (2017) in his sights but will have an uphill battle after a brutal batch of injuries.

On Friday, the former Socceroos coach revealed that Spurs expect to be without stars James Maddison and Micky van de Ven until next year after the pair suffered injuries during Tottenham’s disastrous 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday morning.

Centre-back van de Ven sustained a hamstring injury while midfielder Maddison limped off with an ankle injury.

Tottenham were reduced to nine players during the loss, its first of the league season, as Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off with red cards.

Therefore, Postecoglou will be without several key players for Saturday night’s match against the Wolves.

“Fair to say a fair bit happened,” Postecoglou told media.

“Micky obviously with that hamstring injury, we knew it was fairly significant, probably a couple of months for him looking into the new year.

“Madders [Maddison] is a lot worse than we thought. He came off with an ankle injury and the next day wasn’t great, so we sent him for a scan. Again, probably into the new year for him.”

Tottenham is placed second on the Premier League ladder, one point behind reigning champions Manchester City.
