APC, Makinde trade words over alleged plans to sell Agodi fish farm

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, are in a dispute regarding allegations of plans to sell the Agodi government fish farm.

In a statement issued on Friday, the APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, claimed that Governor Makinde intends to transfer ownership of the fish farm to a private investor. Sadare characterized this development as “unfortunate.”

“We have uncovered fresh plans by Gov. Makinde and his associates to expand private housing estate projects around the Agodi Government Secretariat, which has led to the creation of Baywood Estate,” Sadare stated.

He further alleged that the government is poised to demolish the fish farm facility, a move he believes would facilitate the expansion of the adjacent private estate. “After the destruction of the enviable green zone that protects the environment around the area, the next step for Governor Makinde is to level the Government Fish Farm facility,” Sadare added.

In response, Governor Makinde dismissed the allegations, calling them reckless. Through his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor asserted that there are no plans to sell or transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm to any private entity.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no plan by the Oyo State Government to sell, cede, or otherwise transfer the Agodi Government Fish Farm to any private developer,” Olanrewaju said. “The allegation exists only in the imagination of those who appear more interested in generating headlines than engaging in honest public discourse.”
