APC may be behind US Congress blacklisting Kwankwaso – El-Rufai

El-Rufai Suggests APC Behind Kwankwaso Blacklisting
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has suggested that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may be involved in the blacklisting of Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
El-Rufai made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Friday, which was monitored by DAILY POST. His comments come in light of recent legislative actions in the United States aimed at enhancing accountability for human rights abuses in Nigeria.
A bill, known as the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, has been introduced by U.S. lawmakers. This legislation includes potential sanctions against Fulani militias and Kwankwaso.
El-Rufai stated, “The APC may be behind it because Kwankwaso has refused to move to the APC, and there are rumors that he will move to the ADC.” He further commented that he could not think of anyone else who might be responsible for the blacklisting.
He noted that 12 northern states have implemented Sharia law, with Zamfara being the first. “I thought Zamfara should be listed there if at all anyone is to be blamed for this Sharia fiasco,” El-Rufai added. He emphasized that Kwankwaso is not among the governors typically associated with fundamentalism.
