Armed Bandits Abduct Six Residents in Kwara State Attack
Rukpete Village, Kwara State — Armed assailants abducted six residents during a late-night raid on Rukpete Village in the Edu Local Government Area, according to local reports. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Community sources indicated that the attackers initially kidnapped seven individuals but later released one elderly victim. The remaining six abductees include four men and two women, with reports suggesting that some of the victims are children under the age of 14, raising significant alarm within the community.
The operation was executed quietly, leaving residents with little time to alert security forces, which failed to intervene in time. In the aftermath, community members have expressed rising concerns and called on government authorities and security agencies for immediate and robust action to secure the victims’ release and enhance safety measures to prevent future incidents.
The prevalence of banditry and kidnappings for ransom remains a pressing issue, particularly in rural and under-policed areas, despite ongoing efforts by security forces to address the crisis.
