Troops Thwart Terrorist Attack on Forward Operating Base in Zamfara

MAYANCHI, Zamfara State — Troops successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mayanchi, located in the Maru Local Government Area, on July 18. The assault was aimed at disrupting operations along the strategic Sokoto-Gusau highway but resulted in no military breaches.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst specializing in the Lake Chad region, reported that the attack occurred around 5:05 p.m., with assailants traveling on motorcycles. They sought to infiltrate and take control of the military installation.

In response, troops at the base engaged the attackers, and reinforcements were dispatched from the FOB in Fangaltama to bolster defenses. According to the report, the coordinated military action forced the terrorists to retreat, ensuring the camp remained secure.

The successful defense of the base also maintained the integrity of the Sokoto-Gusau Main Supply Route, which is critical for both military logistics and civilian transportation.

Sources indicated that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to exert pressure on armed groups operating within Zamfara State, aiming to restrict their movement and influence.
