Nigeria’s trio of Favour Ashe, Favour Ofili, and Godson Brume have qualified for the 60m final at the SEC Indoor Championships.

The South Eastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Championships started on a bright note for Nigerian athletes, as they all cruised to the final in their respective events.

Favour Ashe and Favour Ofili top this list, as they comfortably won their qualifying 60m heats in impressive times to make the final.

Ashe, the Auburn University sophomore, clocked the fastest time of all heats in 6.54s. The other qualifiers were Jordan Anthony (6.64s), Azeem Fahimi (6.66s), Keshaun Black (6.68s), PJ Austin (6.69s), Lance Lang (6.69s), and Brandon Licklin (6.71s).

Godson Brume also made the list after finishing second in his heat in 6.68s.

Ashe is the favourite to win the 60m title, and he also affirmed he wants to go below his Personal Best (PB) of 6.51s in the final, while Brume also has a shot at winning a medal if he matches or surpasses his PB of 6.58s set last week.

Ofili also had an easy win in her qualifying heat, racing to 7.18s for the third-fastest time overall. Kaila Jackson (7.15s) and Jacious Sears (7.16s) led with the fastest times, notwithstanding Ofili is still one of the favourites for the Gold medal.

The Louisiana State University (LSU) junior will try to win the 60m title to make it double wins, as she’s already miles ahead of her peers in the 200m, barring unforeseen circumstances.
