Aussie skipper has surgery after freak ‘accident’

Australian captain and Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has undergone surgery on her hand after a “domestic accident” at her home on Saturday night.

Healy was withdrawn from the Sixers’ squad for Sunday’s WBBL clash against the Sydney Thunder at North Sydney Oval.

“Alyssa Healy injured her hand in a domestic accident at home [on Saturday night] and has today undergone surgery,” the Sixers said in a statement.

“No further details of the accident or injury are clear at this time, with further details to be communicated in due course.

“She has not been replaced on the Sixers’ roster.”

It is not known how long Healy will be unavailable, casting doubt over her fitness to play in Australia’s multi-format tour of India in December.

Preparing to watch her side from the couch, Healy posted an Instagram story – her heavily bandaged arm giving a thumbs up.

“Appreciate all the love. Am at home watching the girls get it done,” she wrote.

“Side note – if anyone knows how to do a hair tie one-handed, let me know,” she added.

Adding to the Sixers’ injury woes, batter Mathilda Carmichael was also ruled out of the match after suffering a back strain at training on Saturday, while bowler Gabby Sutcliffe is still unfit to play.

The Sixers opened their WBBL campaign with a two-run loss to the Melbourne Stars on Thursday. Healy scored 10 (10) and had a hand in four wickets.
