Ballon d’Or: I thought I would win it – Lamine Yamal

Barcelona Forward Reflects on Ballon d’Or Experience
Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal recently discussed his thoughts on the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards, where he finished as the runner-up to Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé.
In a candid admission, Yamal expressed initially believing he would claim the prestigious award. However, he now believes it was advantageous that Dembélé took home the honor.
“I thought I was going to win it that day in 2025 because of many things that happened,” Yamal said. “Looking back, I think it was very good for me that Dembélé won it.”
He further elaborated that the timing of the award was likely not right for him. “Beyond helping me grow personally, I don’t think it was the right time for me to win it because I was still a kid and probably wouldn’t have appreciated what it really means to win a Ballon d’Or,” he noted.
Despite his past disappointment, Yamal remains hopeful about future opportunities, stating, “Let’s see if this year is mine.”
