Bandits burn rice harvest, kill residents, abduct five in Zamfara

Bandits attacked the Farin Ruwa community in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulting in the burning of harvested rice, the killing of residents, and the abduction of five individuals. The incident was detailed in a post on social media by security analyst Bakatsine.

According to Bakatsine, bandits have begun demanding significant sums of money from farmers before permitting them to harvest their crops. This ongoing situation has left residents of Farin Ruwa grappling with a harsh reality as they confront the threats posed by these armed groups.

The attack led to considerable destruction as bandits not only abducted community members but also set fire to harvested rice. Among the victims, Saminu Adamu was reportedly killed despite his family having paid a ransom for his release, further compounding the tragedy for his loved ones.

Furthermore, the report identifies five residents who remain in captivity: Abdulrahman Shehu, Mansur Muhammad, Idi Muhammad, Abdullahi Sani, and Sani Usman.

Bakatsine raised concerns about the impact of such violence on local farmers, questioning how they can provide for their families when they are unable to safely harvest their crops. The ongoing plight of this community prompts urgent calls for intervention and support.
