Former Niger State Education Board Chairman Freed After Eight Months in Captivity
Former Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mohammed Bawa Niworo, has been released after spending eight months in captivity.
Niworo was kidnapped along the New Bussa-Mokwa road near the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State in September of last year. Initial reports indicated that the abductors demanded a ransom of N150 million for his release.
Sources revealed that his family paid N30 million in December, but Niworo was not freed at that time. Following this, the kidnappers reportedly lowered their ransom demand and threatened to harm him due to his declining health.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his release have not yet been disclosed as of the latest updates.
