Arewa Consultative Forum Warns of Taxation by Bandits on Farmers in Northern Nigeria
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised concerns regarding bandits and terrorists imposing taxes on farmers in Northern Nigeria.
Professor Tukur Baba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, addressed the issue during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Saturday. His remarks followed a notable increase in insecurity across Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region.
Baba indicated that farmers are not only required to pay taxes to access their lands but are also compelled to pay for the harvesting of their crops.
“When the news from the World Food Programme was released, many of us were not surprised,” he stated.
He noted that the ACF has been highlighting the significant socioeconomic challenges faced by the population for several years.
“The government needs to address the root causes of insecurity and demonstrate its authority,” he asserted.
