Bauchi State Chief Judge Inaugurates Member of Local Government Election Tribunals and Other Courts
Bauchi, Nigeria — Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, has officially inaugurated members of the state’s Local Government Election Tribunals, Appeal Tribunal, Family Court I, and Right of Way Mobile Court. The inauguration took place at the Bauchi State High Court premises.
During the ceremony, Umar emphasized the importance of impartiality and independence in the tribunals’ functions. She urged the newly appointed members to adhere strictly to the law and to justify the trust placed in them through their competence, integrity, and dedication to justice.
The Chief Judge highlighted that the Local Government Election Tribunals are designed to resolve potential disputes arising from the upcoming local government elections in the state. She stressed the need for tribunal members to execute their duties without bias, urging equal treatment of all political parties irrespective of their affiliations.
“Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” Umar remarked, cautioning tribunal members against external pressures or influences. She called for decisions to be based solely on evidence and applicable law.
Umar reiterated the judiciary’s essential role in maintaining democracy, noting that public confidence in the electoral process heavily relies on the courts’ ability to adjudicate fairly.
Additionally, she urged members of the Family Court and Right of Way Mobile Court to approach their responsibilities with diligence and professionalism.
According to reports, the Bauchi South Tribunal and Special Court will convene at the State High Court in Bauchi, while the Bauchi North Tribunal and Special Court will operate from the High Court premises in Azare. The Magistrates’ Court in Ningi will serve as the location for the Central Zone Tribunal and Special Court.
