Bauchi court jails eight over thuggery in Unguwar Dim

Court Sentences Eight in Bauchi for Thuggery
BAUCHI, Nigeria – A Bauchi court has sentenced eight individuals to eight years in prison each for charges related to thuggery and public disturbance in the Unguwar Dim area of Bauchi metropolis.
The court also offered an alternative option for each defendant to pay a fine of 370,000 naira.
The arrests followed a complaint made to the Bauchi State Police Command by the Peace and Security Committee of Unguwar Dim on October 14, concerning a resurgence of thuggery in the neighborhood. In response, police operatives collaborated with committee members to conduct a raid on a suspected hideout for criminals in the early hours of October 15.
During the operation, nine suspects were apprehended, and police seized various weapons, including machetes, cutlasses, knives, sticks, and illicit substances.
According to police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib, after thorough investigations, eight of the suspects were charged in court. They pleaded guilty to the charges and received their sentences.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the court’s verdict, attributing it to successful cooperation between law enforcement and the community. He reiterated the police command’s commitment to combating thuggery and other violent crimes throughout Bauchi State.
