Family of Slain Islamic Teacher Demands Justice in Bauchi State
The family of a 42-year-old Islamic teacher, who was reportedly stabbed to death by suspected members of the Sara-Suka gang in Bauchi State, has called for justice as the alleged assailants remain unapprehended one week after the incident.
Jamila Dauda, the sister of the deceased, expressed frustration over the absence of arrests, noting that the suspects are well-known in the Karofi Madaki community. “We are beginning to lose confidence in the justice system,” she told reporters.
According to Jamila, her brother was attacked on his way home after a dispute concerning political campaign posters placed on family property. She claimed that the confrontation followed weeks of intimidation from local youths who had put up these posters without the family’s consent.
“One of the youths openly threatened to kill him during the disagreement,” she said, explaining that her brother succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
“The killers of my brother are still walking freely. We need justice. If they are arrested and prosecuted, it will prevent such incidents from happening again. If there is no justice, these boys will continue to believe they can take lives without consequences,” she added.
Describing her brother as both a beloved family member and a respected Islamic teacher, Jamila highlighted that he was the family’s breadwinner and is survived by his wife, Umaimatu, and their five children.
The family has appealed to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the Commissioner of Police to ensure the suspects are identified and prosecuted. They believe that justice would act as a deterrent against violent crimes allegedly associated with Sara-Suka gangs in the region.
In response to the situation, SP Nafiu Abubakar, spokesman for the Bauchi State Police Command, confirmed that efforts to apprehend the two main suspects are ongoing. “We have been trailing them from one place to another. Anywhere we receive credible information, we follow it up. We will not relent until we arrest them,” he stated.
