Being arrogant is good’ – Burna Boy’s mom defends son amid backlash

Burna Boy’s Mother Defends Him Amid Social Media Criticism

LAGOS, Nigeria — Bose Ogulu, mother of singer Burna Boy, has come to her son’s defense following a wave of criticism on social media accusing him of arrogance.

The backlash stems from an incident where Burna Boy reportedly clashed with DJ Tunez, the DJ for fellow artist Wizkid, during a recent event at a Lagos nightclub. This altercation sparked an online dispute between Burna Boy and Wizkid.

In light of the controversy, many Nigerians have criticized Burna Boy for what they perceive as a tendency to resort to physical confrontation, labeling him arrogant.

During an interview on Channels TV with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Ogulu expressed her views on the situation. She stated that she does not mind being viewed as arrogant if that perception arises from Burna Boy’s confidence in his abilities. “If knowing his worth and carrying himself as such is arrogant, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologize for that,” she said.

When asked if she is concerned about the image of arrogance associated with Burna Boy, she replied, “I don’t mind honestly, I don’t mind at all. Any adjective they want to attach to you is okay. The thing is, who are you?”

Ogulu further elaborated on societal expectations, emphasizing that external factors such as race, nationality, and gender play significant roles in how individuals are perceived. “I understand that if I know something, I know it, and I expect you to realize that I know it. And if you don’t realize that I know it, then put me to the test,” she added.
