Benue: Gunmen kill pastor, three others, injure eight in Logo attack

Four individuals, including a pastor, were killed and eight others injured in an attack by suspected armed herders on the Abeda Shitile community in the Gaambe-Tiev area of the Logo Local Government Area in Benue State on Tuesday. The assault occurred around 5 p.m. as traders and residents were preparing to leave the local market, leading to widespread panic as assailants opened fire across multiple locations within the community.

A community leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, reported that the attack lasted over two hours. He detailed how the perpetrators moved from a point-of-sale shop owned by Ernest Atindi Tor in the Ikyô Tor Dukur area toward the motor park on Afia Road. The leader described the situation as terrifying, with residents fleeing in all directions to evade the gunfire.

The deceased have been identified as Msoo Chan, Pastor Terungwa Tyonungo, Suurshater Iornumbe, and Dodo Shingir. Their bodies have been recovered and taken to a local mortuary.

The injured individuals, who include Kumater Awua, Miracle Gangera, Tsetim Terungwa, Iortyom Helen, Seember Aondongu, Kofi Aondosoo, Chuku Okoro, and Orker Iortyom, are currently receiving medical care at a nearby health facility, according to the community leader.

Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Peter Aondongu, for further comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
