Christian Association of Nigeria Declares Three-Day Fasting and Prayer for Kidnapped Students
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State has announced a three-day fasting and prayer program aimed at securing the safe return of 78 schoolchildren abducted by Boko Haram in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
The initiative also seeks to address the plight of other hostages taken in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area, and along the Biu-Buratai Road in April 2026. The themed program, titled “A Call for Three Days Fasting and Prayers for the Safe Return of Our Kidnapped Brethren,” will take place from Friday, August 14, to Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The announcement was made by Senior Apostle Joshua Akeredolu Michael, the Borno CAN Secretary, who noted that the kidnapped children have been held captive for over two months. The program was organized under the leadership of Most Rev. Dr. John Bogna Bakeni, and it will also address the needs of other victims from Mussa and Lassa in Askira-Uba, Ngoshe, and various locations throughout the state.
Akeredolu encouraged church leaders to actively promote participation within their congregations, emphasizing that individual churches should conduct prayers and conclude the program during Sunday services.
CAN has also urged both the Federal and Borno State governments, as well as security agencies, to enhance their efforts in securing the release of all kidnapped individuals in the region. The association expressed optimism that this initiative would lead to the safe return of the abducted children and other victims still entrapped in captivity.
