BREAKING: Court nullifies Pantami’s ticket, orders fresh PDP guber primary in Gombe
A Federal High Court in Gombe has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a new primary election for its governorship candidate in Gombe State.
Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed issued the ruling in response to a lawsuit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, who contested the legitimacy of Prof. Isa Ali Pantami’s candidacy. Garry argued that the PDP failed to conduct the required primary election before announcing Pantami as its sole candidate on June 26, 2026.
Pantami, previously a gubernatorial aspirant with the All Progressives Congress (APC), switched to the PDP after the APC named Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate. He was awarded the PDP ticket during a primary held in May, which featured a voice affirmation process.
In her ruling on Thursday, Justice Mohammed directed the PDP to organize a new primary election in compliance with the party’s regulations and applicable electoral laws.
