Ebola Case Confirmed in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reported a confirmed case of Ebola disease in the Federal Capital Territory, following laboratory analysis.

The patient, a woman who recently traveled from Uganda, is currently receiving isolated treatment after initially being admitted to a private hospital in the capital.

In response to the case, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, along with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the FCT Health Services Secretariat, are actively coordinating efforts to manage the outbreak and prevent further transmission of the virus.

Officials have initiated contact tracing, identifying 44 close contacts, which include healthcare workers, patients, caregivers, and others who traveled with the patient.

In addition to contact tracing, surveillance activities have been intensified across the region, and the hospital is receiving additional support to enhance its infection prevention and control measures.

The federal government has called on both public and private healthcare facilities nationwide to remain vigilant. Facilities are urged to promptly isolate any suspected cases, adhere to strict infection control protocols, and report potential infections to public health authorities without delay.
