BREAKING: I’m deeply embarrassed – Tinubu orders EFCC to unfreeze Osun govt account

President Directs EFCC to Lift Freeze on Osun State Account

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to remove the court order that froze the account of the Osun State government. This directive follows significant public backlash regarding the EFCC’s actions.

In a personally signed statement, Tinubu expressed his concerns about the timing of the commission’s move, stating that such actions often reflect on him, even without his prior knowledge or involvement.

“I feel deeply embarrassed not by the EFCC’s exercise of its mandate backed by a court order, but by the timing of the agency’s action,” he said.

Tinubu emphasized his ongoing commitment to maintaining the independence of anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies. He asserted that these institutions must operate without political interference to uphold good governance and the rule of law.

“Since assuming office, I have deliberately refrained from directing or interfering in the operational activities of the EFCC or any other investigative agency,” Tinubu noted. “Strong democratic institutions are indispensable to our governance.”

The president reaffirmed his belief in the necessity for state institutions to function autonomously, stating that they are established by law with clearly defined powers and should act in the interest of proper governance without prior approval from the presidency.
