Seminarian Abducted in Benue State Returns Safely

OTUKPO, Benue State — The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo has confirmed the safe return of seminarian Kelvin Ochai, who was abducted by gunmen in the Asa III area of Otukpo Local Government Area.

The announcement was made by the diocese’s Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo, in a statement released on Saturday. Itodo credited the seminarian’s return to divine intervention and the prayers of the community.

According to the diocese, Ochai managed to escape from his captors on the evening of July 31, 2026. He subsequently made his way to Aliade in Gwer East Local Government Area, where he was reunited with his family in good health.

“Through the prayers of the people of God, Kelvin escaped from the custody of his abductors,” the statement noted.

Bishop Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi expressed heartfelt gratitude to clergy, lay faithful, and community members for their steadfast support and prayers during Ochai’s captivity.
