BREAKING: Military inaugurates court martial for soldiers involved in alleged coup plot

Nigerian Military Initiates Court-Martial for Alleged Coup Plot

The Nigerian military has established a general court-martial to adjudicate the cases of 36 personnel accused of participating in a conspiracy to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

The Defense Headquarters announced the inauguration of the court-martial on Friday, held at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja. The proceedings occurred under stringent security measures, and the session was conducted behind closed doors due to its sensitive nature.

Access to the venue was restricted. Despite prior invitations, accredited defense journalists were denied entry, and security personnel prohibited the use of mobile phones to document the arrival of the defendants. The accused were transported to the session in an Army Headquarters Garrison bus shortly before 9 a.m.

These military proceedings coincide with separate criminal charges initiated by the Federal Government against civilians allegedly involved in the coup plot, which are being addressed in the Federal High Court in Abuja.
