BREAKING: Rivers Assembly backs creation of State Police
The Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed its support for the proposed establishment of state police in Nigeria. This endorsement follows the National Assembly’s submission of the 1999 Constitution (Sixth Alteration) Bill 2026 to all 36 state assemblies for their review and approval.
The bill aims to transform Nigeria’s policing framework from a centralized national police system to a dual model, which would include both the Federal Police Service and State Police Services.
Other state assemblies, including those in Ogun and Nasarawa, have similarly backed the initiative to create a state police system.
