Burna Boy breaks record for most monthly listeners by African artist in Spotify history
Nigerian Artist Burna Boy Sets New Spotify Record for Monthly Listeners
Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, has achieved a historic milestone on Spotify by setting the record for the most monthly listeners by an African artist.
The artist, widely recognized for his hit “African Giant,” recently reached 46.84 million monthly listeners, surpassing the previous record of 46.58 million held by South African singer Tyla. As of now, Burna Boy’s listener count stands at 47.3 million, positioning him to potentially become the first African artist to exceed 50 million monthly listeners on the platform.
This surge in streaming is largely attributed to his latest collaboration with singer Shakira, titled “Dai Dai.” The song recently ascended to the number one spot on the Spotify Global Top Songs chart, marking Burna Boy as the first African artist to achieve this distinction since Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” in 2016.
