Celebrities Need People To Keep Them Grounded

Iyanya Reflects on 17 Years of Navigating Fame with Guidance
Nigerian musician Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known simply as Iyanya, recently shared insights on managing fame successfully for 17 years in the entertainment industry. During an appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, he attributed his longevity to the guidance and mentorship of trusted individuals.
Iyanya noted the pressures associated with celebrity status, emphasizing the need to stay grounded. He explained that accepting advice from others has been crucial in helping him maintain a balanced perspective.
“I have been able to maintain fame positively for 17 years because of guidance,” Iyanya stated. He advised younger artists to avoid taking the challenges of fame personally, highlighting the importance of having mentors.
“The overwhelming nature of fame can be deceptive,” he continued, adding that entertainers benefit from having a support system to keep them grounded. “You need one, two, or three people in your life to help keep you grounded because everything is going to happen so fast and none of it is real.”
Iyanya also cautioned that recognition can be fleeting. He warned that the same individuals who once celebrated an artist may not remember them during future interactions. “If you’re not popular two or three years later, they might not recall your meeting with them,” he said.
He urged fellow entertainers to seek counsel from trustworthy sources, emphasizing that such relationships are vital for navigating the complexities of fame and personal development. According to Iyanya, these mentors can provide essential moral support and guidance, helping public figures avoid the pitfalls often associated with celebrity life.
