Celebrity boxing: Carter Efe’s victory scripted by organisers to evade N23bn betting payment – Portable

Portable Accuses Organizers of Rigging Celebrity Boxing Match
LAGOS — Musician Portable has alleged that the victory of Carter Efe in a celebrity boxing match on Friday was orchestrated by event organizers to avoid a N23 billion payout related to betting.
The match, held in Lagos, concluded with Efe defeating Portable, earning a cash prize of N50 million. Judges scored the bout 30-27 in favor of Efe.
Following the defeat, Portable faced ridicule from numerous celebrities on social media, many of whom referenced his previous comments about defeating Efe. In response to the backlash, Portable released an Instagram video on Sunday, asserting that the match outcome was predetermined to evade the large betting payment owed to him.
“Na zazu, anywhere I follow is where una go follow. I’m the king while you guys are the chiefs,” Portable stated, suggesting that he has brought unique value to Nigerian boxing by initiating celebrity fights. He also claimed he had received N40 million before the fight and additional payments for promoting the event.
“Even if I win the match, na 17 million in dollars be the money wey everybody wey do betting for my victory go collect. That’s 23 billion in naira, who go pay am, can organisers pay?” he questioned, maintaining that most bets were placed on him, not Efe.
This match was not Portable’s first appearance in the ring; he previously secured victories against Speed Darlington and Charles Okocha in 2025.
