Court adjourns ₦5.25m suit against TikToker over failed marriage promise

A Sharia Court in Jogana has postponed a ₦5.25 million lawsuit involving popular TikToker Fatima Tabatul. The case, brought by Muhammad Abdulkadir, centers on his claim for a refund of money he alleges he spent on Tabatul after she promised to marry him.

Abdulkadir is seeking ₦5,252,077, asserting that he incurred these expenses based on her alleged commitment to marriage, which he argues she subsequently failed to uphold.

The hearing took place on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, presided over by Judge Kamalu Haruna Durumin Iya. During the session, Tabatul’s attorney, Usman Umar Abdullahi, questioned the court’s jurisdiction, suggesting it did not have the authority to adjudicate the matter. He requested that the judge dismiss the lawsuit.

In contrast, the plaintiff’s attorney, Yasir Garba Mukhtar, argued against the jurisdictional challenge, maintaining that the defense had not provided adequate legal justification for the court’s lack of authority. Mukhtar insisted that the court is empowered to address the case.

After considering arguments from both sides, Judge Durumin Iya adjourned the proceedings until November 3, 2026. On that date, the court is expected to rule on the jurisdictional issue, which will determine whether the Sharia Court can proceed to examine the underlying claims regarding Abdulkadir’s alleged expenses.
