Court remands two men over murder of commercial sex worker in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of Saviour Daniel, 25; and David Isaiah, 25; in a correctional facility in Ado-Ekiti over the alleged murder of a commercial sex worker.

The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are being tried for alleged murder and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendants committed the offences in February  2024, in Ado-Ekiti.

Apata alleged that the defendants murdered one Comfort James, suspected to be a commercial sex worker.

He said that the defendants went to a brothel and saw the deceased, “in the process they negotiated and she followed them to their house.”

After that, she demanded her money but they refused to give her.

“They strangled her and poured pesticides into her mouth, which led to her death.”

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants to a correctional facility pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The pleas of the defendants were not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional facility pending the issuance of legal advice.

She adjourned the case until March 21, for mention.

LIB reported that the victim was last seen on the 6th of February at her residence at Isato Street, Ado Ekiti.

She was picked up at a brothel by Saviour Daniel and never returned.

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ekiti State Commandant, Agboola Sunday Adisa, said that the command received a complaint alleging that the deceased was kidnapped.

Agboola explained that Saviour Daniel and his accomplice, one David Isaiah, upon being contacted by the victim’s friend demanded a ransom of N1 million naira as a condition for her release.

Being unable to raise the sum, they were forced to file a complaint with the Command.

The State Command swung into immediate action and against all odds, were able to apprehend the suspects.

Upon enquiry into the case, the suspects admitted that they had kidnapped the victim in the false guise of engaging her services as a commercial sex worker.

Commandant Agboola also explained further that the suspects took turns to rape her repeatedly, killed her afterwards and dumped her remains in a nearby farmland.

He added that they also made away with the deceased cell phone and continued to demand ransom from the victim’s friends and family.
