Police Conduct Raids, Arrest 35 in Osun State

Ode-Oga, Osun State – In a series of coordinated operations on October 25, 2026, police arrested 35 individuals in connection with suspected criminal activities. The raids targeted known illegal spots and hideouts in areas including Gbonmi, Popo, Isale-Aro, Oja-Oba, Allie, and Orisunmibare.

According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura, the suspects underwent profiling and screening to ascertain their involvement in criminal conduct. Following this process, 23 individuals were released, while 12 others were detained for further investigation.

The detained suspects range in age from 22 to 45 years and include Oluranti Fatao, Suraju Adebayo, and Ibrahim Sodiq, among others. Preliminary investigations have linked them to various alleged offenses, including extortion, thuggery, drug-related crimes, and activities that could incite fear among residents.

In a separate incident on October 19, police arrested two suspected cultists during a violent clash in Ede North Local Government Area. The confrontation, which occurred around 12:30 p.m., prompted police to respond to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, the police were reportedly ambushed by armed individuals but managed to apprehend Salaudeen Mujib, who was found in possession of a locally made firearm and sustained a minor gunshot wound.

Mujib allegedly admitted to being a member of the Aye cult group. Following the arrest, authorities apprehended another suspect, Olaposi Afeez, who was found with a battle axe and local charms, and confessed to belonging to the Eiye confraternity.

Details regarding the charges against the suspects have not been disclosed. However, the police confirmed that they have been brought before a competent court.

These operations are part of a broader initiative aimed at eliminating criminal elements in Osun State, particularly in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Commissioner Zungura has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to continue intelligence-led raids on identified hideouts and has urged residents to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Zungura also emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating cultism and firearm offenses, warning potential offenders to cease their activities.
