Crude Oil Imports Through Lagos Ports Decline in September

LAGOS — Crude oil imports through Lagos Ports saw a significant decline of 38.6 percent in September 2026. A total of 1,470,109 metric tonnes of crude oil was imported during the month, down from 2,392,354 metric tonnes in August, according to the latest data.
The Lagos import chart, released on Tuesday, indicates that the figures may be subject to change as the final eight days of the month could affect the overall totals.
Data from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) shows that various petroleum products and other commodities accounted for a substantial portion of the import volumes during this period. Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, led the imports among petroleum products, with 526,500 metric tonnes recorded.
Following petrol, Aviation Turbine Fuel (JET A1) totaled 167,000 metric tonnes, while Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), or diesel, amounted to 82,500 metric tonnes. Additionally, imports of bulk wheat reached 173,483 metric tonnes.
The data highlights variations in import volumes across key petroleum products and other major commodities. It is important to note that the report does not include crude oil imports through the Lekki Deep Sea Port, meaning the total volume of crude oil imported into Nigeria for the period remains unaccounted.
