Australian Test captain Pat Cummins has announced he won’t nominate for next year’s Indian Premier League draft, potentially robbing himself of more than $1 million.
Cummins made history in 2019 when he became the most expensive overseas player sold at the IPL auction, with the Kolkata Knight Riders purchasing him for $3.17 million.
Last year the Knight Riders slashed his payday but he was still purchased for $1.35m.

Now he won’t make himself available at all, revealing the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
“I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next year’s IPL,” Cummins wrote.
“The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODIs for the next 12 months, so (I) will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup.
“Thanks so much to (Kolkata) for their understanding… I hope I can get back there (as soon as possible).”
Cummins, 29, is one of the best fast bowlers in the world and was made the Australian Test captain a year ago when Tim Paine quit in disgrace.
In the coming 12 months the Australian men’s team has an ODI series against England, five summer Tests against the West Indies and South Africa, an Ashes tour of the UK, followed by the ODI World Cup, before returning home for another summer campaign.
