Daniher stars at Melbourne flag celebration

Neale Daniher has starred at Melbourne‘s premiership celebration after receiving a standing ovation at the MCG in stirring scenes.

The former Demons coach was on hand along with former captain David Neitz, with the pair handing over Simon Goodwin‘s Jock McHale Medal and Christian Petracca‘s Norm Smith Medal.

Melbourne’s premiership team was met by approximately 40,000 diehard fans who had not been able to travel to Perth for the grand final win due to COVID-19 protocols.

“As good as winning a premiership was over in Perth, certainly a piece to the puzzle that was missing was being able to do it with family and friends and a full packed MCG of Demon fans,” vice captain Jack Viney said.

Also on hand were retiring Demons stalwarts Nathan Jones and Neville Jetta, who bid farewell to the adoring fans without having a chance to play in the decider.

“The greatest tragedy to come out of this year [in a football sense] was that the game was not played here,” Jones said during the premiership celebration.

However, it was Daniher who was the star of the show and received widespread reaction on social media.
